Textual analysis 1

My Life With Puppets - The Journey of puppeteer Ronnie Le Drew

For my first textual analysis, I chose to analyse a documentary of a famous puppeteer called Ronnie Le Drew who has worked as a puppeteer for over 60 years. He has worked on things such as Rainbow, Labyrinth, The Muppets and the sooty show. The documentary is an account of him talking about his life from a child interested in puppets to a renowned puppeteer. I really relate to the story demonstrated so I really wanted to analyse this documentary and use inspiration in my coursework. It has a very similar format to how I wanted to present my documentary.

Shot types i would like to replicate myself

Genre -  Biography
Language - Formal and sophisticated language in a
Target audience - Older generations that grew up on the television shows he worked on or puppetry fans who want to get into the business
Representation - Positive representation of males, he is a very well-spoken, and engaging person to listen to and he provides a positive representation of men working in the television and film industry.

Documentary Idea no.2

My second idea is a documentary that follows my hobby of puppetry and growing up with a different, obscure hobby. The documentary will be part of a series of documentaries that encapsulate teenagers that have more out-of-the-ordinary hobbies, things such as; coin collecting, horse ridding, metal sculpting, cosplay etc.

The documentary will be named "Teen Interest"

The two social groups I can feature would be myself giving my account of my hobby and for the second I can interview a parent figure to give their view and talk about what it's like to bring up a child with an obscure hobby.

For the online media website, I could feature short videos of the process of making a simple puppet for viewers to join in at home.

I could give my view on the future of puppetry in theatres, tv, and film as an every growing part of plays and films to feature puppets such as warhorse, avenue q, the muppets, etc

Information
I have been interested in puppets since I was 6 years old, starting off being interested in punch and Judy and now I have expanded to making my own puppets and now receive commissions from customers who want puppets made for them. I've puppeteered in productions such as little shop of horrors and peter pan
I have been making puppets for just over 4 years and made around 150 puppets over this time

Planning: Reflection of moderators report

1) Candidates that filmed too much in a school setting recieved lower grades. This could be a problem for my project as it is mainly focused on school.

2) Candidats having cross media references achieved higher grades.

3) The online media is just as important as the video and requires equal if not more effort on it.

4) Candidates that achieved higher grades had a website that is coherent to the video and you must maintain the brand identity

5) Lower achieving candidates had a weak awearness of mise en senes, framing and composition; setting was the least considered aspect.

Planning: Pitch

DOCUMENTARY PITCH

My very brief idea it a doumentary that focus' on the growing number of schools adapting their sujects taught in their school to not feature the "creative" and "artistic" subjects such as subjects like theatre studies, music, art, textiles, design and technology etc. Further more how the creative subjects are givien the least money for resources for students despite being in the most need. The two social groups I can interview will be students who take the creatve subjects who will justify their importance (sometimes being the only reason motivating them to come to school). The second social group being teachers, who can put across their view on why their subject is important (Jobs at risk etc) and the possible interview with Mr Carey the head teacher of a school who is very supportive of the arts in schools.

I would like to find a school that has taken a creative subject off the GCSE or A level couse list and interview the head teacher on their thoughts (for example, belfairs did not offer a music course to this years year 12 students that caused many students leave to another school that did offer music)

According to a study conducted over 1200 schools across the UK, 90% of schools have had to make cut back on the creative subjects in terms of teaching staff, time, Money given to the subject and school facilities. This being because of the governments emphasis on the academic subjects being far more important.

The common view on the matter is that subjects like music for example are easy and unimportant and therefore can easily be cut back. However studies show that students that play a musical instrument perform better in all core subjects aswell as having all round better creativity, problem solving and social skills. Music helps people express emotion and release stress

Being someone who has alway strived and been higher achiving in there more liberating and personal subjects i am able to put across my view of how important they have been to me in my school career and how it would affect me if they were taken away.

For audience participation in the online media section, I will have a comment section box where viewers can tell their stories and experiences on the matter and i will also make a poll for agreeing or disagreeing with the documentarties proposed viewpoint.

I will include hashtags at the end of the documentary on the ending credits for the viewers to use in social media post who feel stongly agreed to the issue.
